BlackBerry Priv – BlackBerry goes down the Android Route

BlackBerry has been on the downhill ever since iOS and Android gained a huge slice of the market share in the last five years.

The company has been slipping down constantly even with several new models trying to spice up the sales. Rather than fight against the flow, BlackBerry has decided to go down the route of Android like several other manufacturers. The BlackBerry Priv is the first BlackBerry device to adopt this highly popular operating system.

Usual Features

The BlackBerry Priv has all theessentials that have defined a BlackBerry smartphone for more than a decade – large screen and physical full QWERTY keyboard. Both these combined with the Android OS provide a new dimension for the BlackBerry Priv. The display is a massive 5.4-inch screen, which provides QHD resolution to help overcome the size disadvantage. A display of this size requires such high amount of resolution to capture all the details.

Full QWERTY Makes a Return

The full QWERTY keyboard in its physical form was one of the standout features that made BlackBerry hugely successful in the past. Its importance has diminished in recent years with almost every manufacturer opting to offer full QWERTY keyboards on the largest screens. Even though it has its convenience, it cannot match the usability of the sensible alternative. BlackBerry has tried to work around this situation by providing both a large touchscreen and a physical keyboard. The solution comes in the form of a slide-out mechanism.

Camera

BlackBerry may be intent on moving away from the business only days of its previous era with phones like the BlackBerry Priv, but it has understood that one of the ways to do this is by offering an excellent camera. It has an 18-megapixel rear camera, which may be one of the best in the business thanks to optics from Schneider-Kreuznach. This camera comes with some high-end options like optical image stabilization and dual LED flash to go along with this high-resolution sensor. A front-facingtwo-megapixel camera should be more than enough for the day to day usage.

The BlackBerry Priv happens to be one of the best BlackBerry phones in recent times, and it is not surprising that prices are expected to be in the region of $900. It is available for pre-order in select markets across the world.
